Another new story...A New World

A New World takes you through the lives off a species that has to leave their home planet because they have discovered an asteroid a quarter size their planet heading right for them. They are a technically advanced race and build giant ships to move their species to the next planet down sun from them.

They have left that planet alone as it is inhabited by a race of people not advanced enough to even have discovered fire yet. They know they will supplant this race within ten decades, yet they have no choice as it is the only other planet in the system they can live on.

Hurrying down the hallway, Jean De'art holds the readout tightly to her thorax. Her mind is reeling with the data typed across the pages she has just printed. Frightened beyond belief she pushes open Professor Ke'pats door without knocking. The Professor spins in his chair to see who would be so bold, yet a kindly smile crosses his lips when he sees it is Jean.

"Jean, my dear, what is the matter? You look as if you have seen a ghost of the ancestors."

"Professor, if that was all, I would be overjoyed. What I have here, in this stack of paper is something I just can't comprehend as yet."

"Well my dear, then let me see and perhaps I can help you."

"Sir, I understand what the data tells me, it's what it means that I can't or don't want to comprehend."

"Let me have a look," Professor Ke'pats says softly.

Jean sets the papers down in front of him, gently. Ke'pats starts reading. As he does, the small hairs on the back of his neck start to rise. His torso breaks out in fel'ck bumps. As he reads the last page of data, his hands shake and his eyes bulge out of their sockets.

"This can't be Jean!" Ke'pats whispers afraid of his students answer.

"I checked it five time sir. The numbers are correct."

"My god, this is…this is disastrous. This will mean…Great Je'ga, I can't say it."

"I know sir. I can't either, but we have to tell someone."

"The High Council must be told for sure, yet…will they do the right thing."

"I wouldn't know the answer to that question Professor, really I wouldn't."

"I know my dear, I know. Not a word of this to anyone until I return from Se'pa City, understand my dear?"

"Yes Professor," Jean says watching the Professor collect her papers and stuff them in his carry case. "Go back to your lab and print another copy of these and put them in a safe place, just in case."

"In case of what Professor?" Jean asks.

"Just do it," the Professor whispers harshly. "For me dear, if you would?" he asks gently.

"Of Course, sir, of course," Jean replies, as the Professor hurries out the door.

Brotherhood of Janus: First Gathering

is now available at Smashwords.

"Brotherhood of Janus - Bylaws and rules of Membership"

George J. Hood and Hyraim Janus founded the Brotherhood of Janus in 1865. The founding of the Brotherhood was for the advancement of members and their families. The Brotherhood required members to help other members in the areas of business and conservation of family fortunes. That was the primary reason for the formation of the Brotherhood. Only, later - 1920 - did the gifting of pleasure to each other in a monthly celebration come to be an additional aspect of the group. Although, in the archives, there is mention of grand meetings of the Brotherhood council and once business concluded, refreshments and entertainment, provided by the member's wives, began.

Membership is either inherited or bestowed. Although there are instances, were short-term memberships were given for payment for the good of the Brotherhood. The first five hundred members are founding members. Even though the member currently holding one of the first five hundred memberships is only a descendant of the first member, they are always to be revered as one of the five hundred.

Looking at the number in the lower right hand corner of the booklet I read my membership number, 00000293, I was a Five Hundred.

New Short Story Published

Lightning Strike

Is now available at Smashwords.

Jim Carr was a lonely young man living in the big city. One day on his way home two things happened to him. He was struck by lightning and met a beautiful woman.
--------
Jim Carr was walking down the street on his way home from work, the clouds overhead dark with the coming storm. As he rounded the corner and started across the park down the street from his house, there was a brilliant flash and a loud bang as a single bolt of lightning hit him squarely in the head. Dropping to his knees, Jim cried out in pain slowly falling forward the blackness of unconsciousness washing over his mind.
* * * *
Opening his eyes slowly, a sharp pain still present in his head, Jim saw the face of an angel, his head cradled in the soft lap, of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Opening his mouth the woman placed a finger to his lips.

Brotherhood of Janus

Wow! A week straight of typing.  I have been fixated on this one for two weeks.  I have forsaken gaming, and other things. 50,000 words and it's only two thirds done. Yikes. And this is just the first in several books planned for the series of who knows how many!

Here's a small except...

-------------------------------

I drove home in a daze.  When I got there, my wife was out, so I sat at the kitchen table and opened the box.  On the very top of the papers, there had to be a couple of hundred file folders, there was a single booklet.  It was about 50 pages, typed and bound.  The title page inside the cover was "Brotherhood of Janus - Bylaws and rules of Membership".  There was a preface.

George J. Hood and Hyraim Janus founded the Brotherhood of Janus in 1865.  The Brotherhood was formed for the advancement of members and their families. The Brotherhood required the members to help other members in the areas of business and conservation of family fortunes. That was the primary reason for the formation of the Brotherhood.  Only, later - 1920 - did the gifting of pleasure to each other in a monthly celebration come to be an additional aspect of the group.  Although in the archives, there is mention of grand meetings of the Brotherhood council and once business concluded, refreshments and entertainment, provided by the member's wives, began.

Membership is either inherited or bestowed. Although there are instances, were payments for short-term memberships have been accepted for the good of the Brotherhood.  The first five hundred members have and will always be referred to as founding members. Even though the member currently holding one of the five hundred membership numbers is only a descendant of the first member, he will still be revered as one of the five hundred.

Looking at the number in the lower right hand corner of the booklet I read my membership number. Zero-zero-zero-zero-zero-two-nine-three, I was a five hundred.

--------------------------

I hope to finish this one soon.

Added:  I have finished the final draft and sent this off to my editor. It will be ready soon.

Unfortunately, if he succeeds in stopping the events that cause humans to be no more, all will be forgotten.
________________

Falling through the grayness, lost in a reality of my own, I dropped through the air hitting the ground hard. How long I lay there, I do not know, but when I woke, I was cold. Cold wet snow blurred my vision. I struggled to my feet, staggering a few meters down the hill on which I landed. Falling forward, I tumbled in the snow, further down slamming against the trunk of a tree. Stunned, I sat there looking up watching the snow, fall from the sky, along with flashes of lights from out of nowhere. My bones ached and my joints tingled. They told me they would.

I don't know how long I sat there watching the snowfall, surprised by the wetness that hit my face. I started to shiver as a gust of wind swirled the white flakes around me. Pulling my canteen from its holder on my belt, I drank until the liquid quenched my need. Searching in the cold snow beside me, I found my rifle. Shaking it free of the clinging white flakes, I slung it over my shoulder. Groaning loudly I struggled to my feet again to continue my journey.

Looking around I found a landmark and knew instantly where I was. Pushing off the tree I headed west through the woods. I had to find the house. I knew the address, but not which house it was on the street. It was dark, the streetlights glowed an eerie greenish white, casting shadows in the recesses of the shrubbery. Finding the house among the row of houses, I saw all was dark inside. Around the side of the garage peeking in the window, I saw both bays were empty, nobody home. With my back to the wall, exhaustion overtook me as I slide down to rest, hoping she would be home directly.

Diary #25

Yes, I keep a diary, or a journal as some call them, this is the twenty-fifth in my series, which I started when I first learned to write.  I write this preface in all but the first.  I am no writer I just jot down my feelings and experiences as they occur, I worry not about spelling or grammar, just the facts.  One day I will let my daughter read these, if I have a daughter.  Not so much to show her I was once young, but to show her life can be fun, full of excitement and wonder.
