New Short Story Published

Lightning Strike

Is now available at Smashwords.

Jim Carr was a lonely young man living in the big city. One day on his way home two things happened to him. He was struck by lightning and met a beautiful woman.
--------
Jim Carr was walking down the street on his way home from work, the clouds overhead dark with the coming storm. As he rounded the corner and started across the park down the street from his house, there was a brilliant flash and a loud bang as a single bolt of lightning hit him squarely in the head. Dropping to his knees, Jim cried out in pain slowly falling forward the blackness of unconsciousness washing over his mind.
* * * *
Opening his eyes slowly, a sharp pain still present in his head, Jim saw the face of an angel, his head cradled in the soft lap, of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Opening his mouth the woman placed a finger to his lips.

Brotherhood of Janus

Wow! A week straight of typing.  I have been fixated on this one for two weeks.  I have forsaken gaming, and other things. 50,000 words and it's only two thirds done. Yikes. And this is just the first in several books planned for the series of who knows how many!

Here's a small except...

-------------------------------

I drove home in a daze.  When I got there, my wife was out, so I sat at the kitchen table and opened the box.  On the very top of the papers, there had to be a couple of hundred file folders, there was a single booklet.  It was about 50 pages, typed and bound.  The title page inside the cover was "Brotherhood of Janus - Bylaws and rules of Membership".  There was a preface.

George J. Hood and Hyraim Janus founded the Brotherhood of Janus in 1865.  The Brotherhood was formed for the advancement of members and their families. The Brotherhood required the members to help other members in the areas of business and conservation of family fortunes. That was the primary reason for the formation of the Brotherhood.  Only, later - 1920 - did the gifting of pleasure to each other in a monthly celebration come to be an additional aspect of the group.  Although in the archives, there is mention of grand meetings of the Brotherhood council and once business concluded, refreshments and entertainment, provided by the member's wives, began.

Membership is either inherited or bestowed. Although there are instances, were payments for short-term memberships have been accepted for the good of the Brotherhood.  The first five hundred members have and will always be referred to as founding members. Even though the member currently holding one of the five hundred membership numbers is only a descendant of the first member, he will still be revered as one of the five hundred.

Looking at the number in the lower right hand corner of the booklet I read my membership number. Zero-zero-zero-zero-zero-two-nine-three, I was a five hundred.

--------------------------

I hope to finish this one soon.

Added:  I have finished the final draft and sent this off to my editor. It will be ready soon.

Time and Again - available at Smashwords.com

Time and Again

The future was a cold, bleak place. Nothing human survived on the continents of the world.  A single…you can't call him human…travels back in time.  With the aid of two friends, he attempts to stop what is the future, from happening.  Alone the way he reunites one couple and helps another to understand their child. Unfortunately, if he succeeds in stopping the events that cause humans to be no more, all will be forgotten.
________________

Falling through the grayness, lost in a reality of my own, I dropped through the air hitting the ground hard. How long I lay there, I do not know, but when I woke, I was cold. Cold wet snow blurred my vision. I struggled to my feet, staggering a few meters down the hill on which I landed. Falling forward, I tumbled in the snow, further down slamming against the trunk of a tree. Stunned, I sat there looking up watching the snow, fall from the sky, along with flashes of lights from out of nowhere. My bones ached and my joints tingled. They told me they would.

I don't know how long I sat there watching the snowfall, surprised by the wetness that hit my face. I started to shiver as a gust of wind swirled the white flakes around me. Pulling my canteen from its holder on my belt, I drank until the liquid quenched my need. Searching in the cold snow beside me, I found my rifle. Shaking it free of the clinging white flakes, I slung it over my shoulder. Groaning loudly I struggled to my feet again to continue my journey.

Looking around I found a landmark and knew instantly where I was. Pushing off the tree I headed west through the woods. I had to find the house. I knew the address, but not which house it was on the street. It was dark, the streetlights glowed an eerie greenish white, casting shadows in the recesses of the shrubbery. Finding the house among the row of houses, I saw all was dark inside. Around the side of the garage peeking in the window, I saw both bays were empty, nobody home. With my back to the wall, exhaustion overtook me as I slide down to rest, hoping she would be home directly.

Kindle eBook - The Michelle Diaries is now available

My newest - The Michelle Diaries - is now available at the Kindle Store.

Follow two students' adventures through medical school.  Their trials, their sorrow, their joy, their
excitement and their loves. Share their journey to become the best they can be, no matter the obstacle.

Diary #25

Yes, I keep a diary, or a journal as some call them, this is the twenty-fifth in my series, which I started when I first learned to write.  I write this preface in all but the first.  I am no writer I just jot down my feelings and experiences as they occur, I worry not about spelling or grammar, just the facts.  One day I will let my daughter read these, if I have a daughter.  Not so much to show her I was once young, but to show her life can be fun, full of excitement and wonder.

What are you doing Jeff?

An open letter to Amazon:

With the deletions of books from the Kindle store, along with already purchased books from individuals Kindle's, and that's the most bizarre thing I have ever encountered, it has been a most mind-boggling week.  As a business practice, the removal of material from a person's privately owned Kindle just reeks of Big Brotherism.  As an individual I would be out raged that, a company with which I do business has not only the ability, but also the audacity to reach out and take back something I purchased from them.

That Kindle is my property, not theirs.  I paid for it and the stories it contains, not Amazon. The road to my Amazon should be one way, from them to me.  Before they sent the item to my Kindle, they should know whether my credit card transaction has been accepted, that's what happens at all the other stores with which I do business.  There should be absolutely no reason for them to invade my privacy.

And, that's what it is, an invasion of privacy, a violation of one my basic civil rights, my right to privacy, as guaranteed by the Constitution.  At least in the United States it is, unless there have been changes I'm not aware of.

It would also seem the deletions were highly selective.  Why?  (I doubt we will ever get an answer from Amazon)

Just a while ago, there was a mass deletion of gay and lesbian stories from the store and peoples Kindles.  It took a lawsuit to replace people personal property and part of the deal was that Amazon would never do it again.  Someone at Amazon must feel they are above the law when it comes to personal property rights.  Why?

Now we are at another crossroads with Amazon and Kindles.  The topic of concern is now incest. Why?  At last count, only a percentage of titles available on the Kindle have been deleted. Why?  At my last count, about an hour ago, there are still 812 eBook titles dealing with incest still available for down load on the Kindle. Why, if there is a campaign against all incest do they only delete a portion of the titles available?

Why only these authors and one publishing house?  Why only them?  I don't have the answers, only speculation.

Now all this leads to the question, what's next?

Under age sex, Amazon has 54 titles available, 50 of which are available via the Kindle Store.

Bestiality, Amazon has 16 titles available for the Kindle.

There has already been an attack on Gay and Lesbian stories, but Amazon still has 3,137 Lesbian titles for the Kindle and 7,175 Gay titles for the Kindle.

BDSM, Amazon has 2,365 titles for the Kindle.

Cheating Wives, Amazon has 58 titles for the Kindle.

Cuckold, Amazon has 128 titles for the Kindle.

So, which category of eBooks will Amazon attack next?  Which stories will Amazon decide the public shouldn't read?  Or which group bumping Amazon will decided?

While I do believe it is the right of Amazon to decide what they sell, I do not believe it is Amazons right to steal what I have already legally purchased from me.  What they are doing is theft on a grand scale and if I did what they have done, I would be in jail.

Jeff, get your people under control before they land you in jail. There is no other retailer that can come into my house and take back an item I purchased legally.  None.  Why does Amazon feel they have the right?  Some arduous fine print on a computer screen, that nobody reads in the first place?  Your company has been sued in the past, I see another suit in your future.

Update: Amazon has since stated on their customer forum:
“Due to a technical issue, for a short window of time three books were temporarily unavailable for re-download by customers who had previously purchased them. When this was brought to our attention, we fixed the problem and those books were once again made available for re-download. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Technical issue, I believe that one.  Don't you?
